Se proyectó hacia los noventa pero fue interrumpida, quizás porque cambiaron ciertas condiciones del país pero también porque se mantuvieron otras.
Es un fenómeno que vivimos a lo largo de Chile, el acorralamiento de las propuestas de cercanía a los temas sociales y políticos, así como la visión crítica de los medios de comunicación y de los comunicadores. Cuando todo eso entró en la inercia de lo que los sociólogocs llamaron apatía, cuando la idea de transformar la noticia en un eje de las programaciones se ven cuestionadas como en el caso del proyecto de revitalización de Radio Chilena, se comienza a dar un fenómeno de desesperanza entre los que antes empuñaron los micrófonos como una herramienta para la democracia.
Los que quedaron desperdigados por todo Chile y que mantuvieron sus esperanzas vivas se reciclaron hacia proyectos comerciales sin mayor compromiso o bien optaron por la comunicación horizontal, comunitaria, popular o en iniciativas que llegaron a ser redes de radios locales como el caso de la Fundación estrella del Mar en Chiloé. (Es interesante que hoy se vivan revitalizaciones en todo el mundo de los procesos de comunicacion horizontal).
En el caso de la radio Presidente Ibáñez, está su apuesta por la información, siempre fue su estilo, las "open reel" corriendo escondiendo sus frases al imán que cortaba la cuña por decenas cada día, las máquinas de escribir imprimiendo , borrando, imprimiendo, y mucho más que todos los que alguna vez pasamos por esas fábricas de sítesis de la vida conocimos bien.
Un sector de profesionales siempre quisieron retomar, rescatar las partes de lo que se iba perdiendo, en esa línea de recuperación se puede entender que un grupo de radialistas vuelva a retomar nombres, slogan, títulos de programas, voces, nadando en la máquina del tiempo que son las discotecas de las radios, para volver al aire, qué más allá de los estilos y las ideas es lo que todo radialista sueña.

Un poco de historia (extracto de la web de la radio)
La emisora nace como CD-59 RADIO PRESIDENTE IBAÑEZ en onda larga y fue fundada en 1967. Su primera directora y propietaria fue Maria Elena Vukovic de Calcuta y sus estudios estaban ubicados en calle Errázuriz con Chiloe (chiloé 1210, 2° piso).
Durante la interrupción de la democracia Radio Presidente Ibáñez se convierte en la voz de los sin voces en Magallanes. De propiedad entonces del Obispado de Punta Arenas, de la Congregación Salesiana y de Roque Tomás Scarpa, esta emisora es líder indiscutida en sintonía de la región.
Protagonista de grandes jornadas radiales en cadena con radio Cooperativa y luego con radio Chilena. Dentro las transmisiones que marcaron hitos en la historia radial se recuerdan la venida del Papa Juan Pablo Segundo; la primera transmisión en directo desde el Fuerte Bulnes para todo Chile; el puntarenazo; La Carrera de la Hermandad; los inicios del Festival de la Patagonia y las primeras protestas contra el régimen militar, incorporando móviles desde exteriores.
